The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team kicked off the final road trip of their 2024 regular season tonight, pushing the University of Sioux Falls Cougars to a 2-2 draw this evening.

First Half: UMD (1) - USF (1)

The Bulldogs were the first get on the board this evening, breaking open the scoring at the end of the 38th minute with the first goal of the season from senior forward Morgan Eckerle. The lead for UMD would be short lived however as the Cougars went on to score with under thirty seconds left in the half, sending the two teams back to the locker room with a 1-1 tie. The Bulldogs came out swinging in the first half, putting three shots on goal through five total shots and picking one extra corner kick over USF with two total.

Final Score: UMD (2) - USF (2)

The battle would stay deadlocked until the 66th minute with defender Kailey Tomzak's first goal of the season on a free kick opportunity from around thirty yards out, finding the back of the net with a little bit of help from a USF player. However, the Cougars yet again equalized the score with a goal of their own in the 86th minute, pushing the match to a 2-2 draw.

Bulldog Notes vs. USF

The Bulldogs tallied six shots on goal on 11 total shots and three corner kicks…Eckerle scored her first goal of the season on one of her two shots on goal tonight, collecting three total shots…Tomzak also collected her first goal of 2024 on her only shot on goal…Kaycee Chavez picked up five saves on 17 shots faced in her return to the starting lineup…both teams were issued two yellow cards with UMD picking up nine total fouls.

Looking Ahead

Bulldog soccer (2-10-2, 2-7-2 NSIC) finishes out their final road trip in Marshall, Minn. on Sunday, Oct. 27, to take on the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs. Kickoff against the Mustangs is currently scheduled for 1:00 PM.
