UMD Men’s Basketball Falls to Hawkeyes in Opening Exhibition of 2024-25

The University of Minnesota Duluth men's basketball team kicked off their 2024-25 preseason Friday evening, falling to the University of Iowa Hawkeyes 102-81 at Carver-Hawkeye Arena in their first preseason exhibition matchup.

 

Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Player to Watch and reigning NSIC Defensive Player of the Year Charlie Katona led the pack for the Bulldogs, collecting a team high 20 points and seven rebounds. Redshirt junior Noah Paulson added another 15 points off the bench, and redshirt junior Mattie Thompson tallied nine points and two steals.

 

UMD shared the ball well throughout the matchup, racking up 16 assists on 34 made field goals. Individually, Austin Andrews led the way for the Bulldogs with three assists and Caleb Siwek also helped out with three assists of his own.

 

The Bulldogs found success from beyond the arc, knocking down eight three pointers in the matchup while also cleaning up on the offensive glass with 10 offensive rebounds. UMD's bench showed out, putting up 35 points in the team's 34-67 (50.7%) shooting performance.

 

Bulldog men's basketball continues their 2024-25 preseason with their season debut in Romano Gymnasium on Sunday, Nov. 3 against the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets. Tipoff against the Yellowjackets is currently scheduled for 1:00 PM.
