UMD Soccer Closes Out 2024 Road Schedule with 1-1 Draw Against SMSU

The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team closed out their final road game of the 2024 regular season this afternoon, pushing the Southwest Minnesota State University Mustangs to a 1-1 draw.

 

First Half: UMD (0) - SMSU (1)

 

The Mustangs were the first to break the scoring standstill, getting on the board in the first half in the 21st minute. Despite giving up the early score, the Bulldogs attacked the net early collecting seven total shots and three shots on goal throughout the first half. The Bulldogs were also able to hold the Mustangs to just three total shots and two shots on goal.

 

Final Score: UMD (1) - SMSU (1)

 

The Bulldogs came out into the second half on the offensive, collecting an additional 12 shots and seven shots on goal. In the 88th minute, senior defender Aisley Allen equalized the game after a string of passes from Caitlin Sheleski and Morgan Eckerle would set her up to slip the ball straight past the goalkeeper and into the bottom left corner of the net. Neither team would get another chance on goal over the final minutes, sending both teams home with 1-1 draw.

 

Bulldog Notes vs. SMSU

 

UMD recorded 10 shots on goal through 19 total shots and one corner kick in today's matchup…Allen recorded today's goal for the Bulldog on one of her two shots on goal over three total shots…Anna Tobias, Morgan Eckerle, Jessica Eischens, and Elaina Shromoff all each recorded three total shots…the Bulldogs were issued one yellow card on 14 total fouls.

 

Looking Ahead

 

Bulldog soccer (2-10-3, 2-7-3 NSIC) returns to action at home in James S. Malosky Stadium next weekend for their second to last game of the 2024 season. Kickoff against the Winona State University Warriors is currently scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 3, at 1:00 PM.
