The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team began their weekend homestand in James S. Malosky Stadium this evening, falling in a tough 1-0 battle to the No.13 ranked MSU Mankato Mavericks in another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) head to head.
First Half: UMD (0) - MSU (0)
The Bulldogs kept the Mavericks scoreless throughout the first half, limiting MSU to six shots and four shots on goal throughout the opening 45 minutes. UMD's aggressive playstyle helped them maintain possession in midfield, but it would get them into some trouble as they picked up 10 total fouls throughout the first half and the first of their four yellow cards in the 33rd minute.
Final Score: UMD (0) - MSU (1)
UMD goalkeeper Kaycee Chavez would tally on another four saves to open the second half, but the Mavericks would eventually sneak one by to open the scoring at the 77th minute mark. The Bulldogs would struggle to pick up offensive momentum as they collected another six fouls and three more yellow cards in the final 45 minutes, falling to MSU in the end 1-0 to open the weekend.
Bulldog Notes vs. MSU
Miriam Marsan tallied the only shot of the evening for the Bulldogs…UMD was credited with four yellow cards out of the five total in tonight's matchup…Kaycee Chavez collected eight saves in goal and faced 13 total Maverick shots…the Bulldogs did not record a shot on goal.

Bulldog soccer will conclude their two game homestand this Sunday against the Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears. Kickoff against the Golden Bears on Oct. 6 is currently scheduled for 1:00 PM.
