For a second consecutive season, University of Minnesota Duluth redshirt quarterback
Kyle Walljasper has been nominated for the 2024 Harlon Hill Trophy.
One of 43 players nationwide nominated and one of 11 from Super Region 4 for the Division II Football Player of the Year, Walljasper is coming off a season in which the Fond du Lac, Wis. native was named a 2024 All-NSIC First Team selection. Walljasper had the best passing season of his career, averaging 200.9 yards in the air a game and tossing 22 TDs – which tied his career high set last season. With 806 yards on the ground, Walljasper also used his legs to run in eight touchdowns, and averaged 80.6 rushing yards a game.
The Nov. 5 D2Football.com's Offensive Player of the Week and Nov. 4 NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, Walljasper is now fifth all-time for TDs (90), fifth all-time total offense yards (6,977) and sixth all-time for career passing yards. With 4,361 career rushing yards, Walljasper is also fifth all-time in passing TDs (54) and sixth all-time rushing TDs (36).
The group of 43 candidates includes 16 quarterbacks, nine running backs, six wide receivers, four defensive linemen, three defensive backs, two linebackers, a fullback, a return specialist and a kicker. The list features 24 seniors, 17 juniors and two sophomores.
The winner of the 2024 award will be announced on Friday, December 20.
The Hill Trophy is named for the late Harlon Hill - the former University of North Alabama standout - who excelled with the Lions from 1950-53 before going on to fame in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears.
