The University of Minnesota Duluth men's hockey team took Colorado College to overtime tonight for the third time in three games this season. This time, however, it took a three-round shootout with goals from underclassmen Ben Steeves and Anthony Menghini to secure the win and two points.

The game was scoreless until the second period. Just under two minutes in, Menghini scored his eighth career goal off a faceoff. He was left wide open at the side of CC's net and sent the puck in before the goal was knocked off.

The Tigers answered on an odd-man rush ten minutes later, feeding off a successful penalty kill. Neither team had scored on the power play, until UMD was called for high sticking towards the end of the second period. With 14 seconds left, CC scored to gain their first lead, capitalizing off a rebound.

Three and a half minutes into the final frame, the Bulldogs were called for holding. After an official review, the Tigers were assessed a major penalty for the contact to the head.

Connor McMenamin took advantage of the open space during the two minutes of 4-on-4 hockey, tying the game. After a CC turnover in their offensive zone, McMenamin skated all the way in and scored cleanly.

The score remained 2-2 through regulation and overtime. Defenseman Luke Bast led the team in shots (8) and shots on goal (7), but no player's late efforts made it onto the scoreboard.

Going into the shootout, UMD had won all four previous shootouts this season. Tonight was no different. Steeves and Menghini ended it in just three rounds. The two have teamed up once before to win a shootout, the season opener against Michigan Tech.

Matthew Thiessen made two saves in the shootout after facing 18 shots earlier. He posted a .900 save percentage in his second consecutive start.

After adding two points tonight, the Bulldogs sit eight points behind Omaha and Western Michigan. They remain in seventh place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference.

UMD has another chance at points this weekend, challenging CC again at 7 p.m. CT on Saturday, March 2.
