Two current University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey players will join two former Bulldogs next month in Lake Placid, New York for the USA Hockey Women's National Festival, set for August 4-11 at The Olympic Center.
Graduate forward
Clara Van Wieren and senior defenseman
Hanna Baskin will join former UMD All-American teammate and current PWHLÂ Ottawa star
Gabbie Hughes, as well as 2024 Champion with PWHL Minnesota, forward Sydney Brodt. The four make up part of 75 players who are either playing professionally or at the collegiate level. Along with the Under-18 Select Player Development Camp, USA Hockey will select rosters for the U.S Under-18 Select and U.S. Collegiate Select Teams, who will each face Canada in a three-game series at the Seymour-Hannah Sports and Entertainment Centre in St. Catherines, Ontario, from August 14-17.
Van Wieren, a native of Okemos, Mich., scored a career-best 13 goals last season with 24 points. The center has 85 career points on 38 goals and 47 assists, including 11 game-winning goals -- five of which came in 2023-24. Van Wieren was also invited to USA Hockey Festival in 2023. Baskin, out of Excelsior, Minn., posted 18 points – more than other defenseman – which also included both a career-best five goals and 13 assists. Baskin was no less impressive on the defensive side of the puck, and blocked a team-high 61 pucks, which doubled as the eighth most in the WCHA this past season.
