The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team officially opened up their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) regular season schedule tonight, falling to the St. Cloud State Huskies at James S. Malosky Stadium.
Â
First Half: UMD (1) - SCSU (1)
Â
The Bulldogs got out to a quick and dominant start to the game. In the sixth minute, senior Morgan Eckerle would get off a shot on goal after a midfield pass from Caitlin Sheleski, but the shot would get deflected by the SCSU goalkeeper. However, the rebound would find its way to freshman Gwendolyn Lilly in open space for her first goal of her collegiate career goal, putting the Bulldogs up to an early 1-0 lead. The Huskies would eventually tie things up just before halftime after minutes of defensive deadlock, scoring in the 41st minute to even the scoreline at 1-1.
Â
Final Score: UMD (1) - SCSU (2)
Â
Six straight saves from junior Kaycee Chavez to open her eight save second half would help keep the score equalized up until the 67th minute, where SCSU would break the stalemate with a lead changing goal. The UMD offense would be unable to climb the mountain back into the game, falling in the end to the Huskies 2-1.
