The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team closed out a 1-1 draw this afternoon in their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) matchup of the weekend against the Wayne State College Wildcats.
Â
First Half: UMD (0) - WSC (0)
Â
The Bulldogs stayed even with the Wildcats throughout the entirety of the opening half today after a yellow card in the 35th minute stifled a UMD offensive opportunity. The Bulldogs tallied four total shots and three shots on goal in the first 45 minutes, holding WSC to just four shots on goal that were all saved by goalkeeper Kaycee Chavez.
Â
Final Score: UMD (1) - WSC (1)
Â
WSC opened up the scoring first in the 60th minute of the second half, forcing the Bulldogs to play from behind throughout the rest of the game. In the final minute of the match, a hard foul from the Wildcats would bring Anna Tobias up for UMD's first penalty kick opportunity of the season. To tie it all up in the 89th minute, Tobias successfully placed the shot outside of the WSC goalkeeper's reach and helped the Bulldogs begin the weekend with a draw.
