The University of Minnesota Duluth leaped two spots to No. 14 in the newest edition of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll released Tuesday.

The Bulldogs garnered 565 points after a stellar 4-0 weekend in the Javelina Volleyball Classic in Kingsville, Texas. Last Friday featured a four set win over Missouri Southern State University and a five set thriller over host Texas A&M University-Kingsville. The following day UMD made quick work as it dispatched both Westminster University (Utah) and Southern Nazarene University in straight sets.

Reigning national champions California State University, Los Angeles fell from the top spot and the University of Tampa took top honors receiving 1,146 points with 35 of 47 possible first-place votes. Wayne State College, Metropolitan State University of Denver, the University of Missouri–St. Louis and Concordia University, St. Paul round out the week one top five. The Bulldogs have five opponents on their schedule ranked in the top 25 including a top 20 bout with Michigan Technological University in their upcoming match. 

UMD will head east to play three non-conference games in the Up North Tournament in Houghton, Mich., this weekend starting with No. 20 Michigan Tech on Friday, Sept. 13 at 9 a.m.
