UMD Men’s Basketball Propels Past Golden Eagles 107-67 for Fifth Straight Win

The University of Minnesota Duluth men's basketball team secured their fifth straight win in dominant fashion tonight at Romano Gymnasium, powering past the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles 107-67.

Final Score: UMD (107) - UMC (67)

After jumping out to a 28-15 advantage to open the afternoon, UMD went on a 7-0 run with 8:44 left in the first half to increase its lead to 35-15. The Bulldogs then added another eight points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the halftime break with a 55-27 advantage. UMD got out and ran in the period, scoring 11 points on the break.

Following the intermission, UMD continued to widen their lead, expanding it to 92-60 before collecting seven unanswered points to grow the lead to 99-60 with 4:39 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 107-67 win. UMD took care of business in the paint, recording 26 of its 52 points in the lane.

Bulldog Notes vs. UMC

The Bulldogs had six players score in double figures, led by Charlie Katona, who had 19 points and two steals. Kole Hanson also added 19 points and Jayden Johnson helped out with 16 points. Every UMD starter scored in double figures.

UMD grabbed 37 rebounds on their way to a 40 point victory compared to UMC's 26, led by a game high nine boards from Nick Katona. The Bulldogs shot well from three point range, knocking down nine of 19 long range attempts and never trailing in the second half on their way to victory.

UMD's defense held the Golden Eagles to only 17.6% shooting from beyond the arc. The Golden Eagles did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with six offensive rebounds and managed seven second chance points while the Bulldogs cleared 29 defensive rebounds and forced 13 turnovers throughout the night.

Looking Ahead

Bulldog men's basketball (12-5, 7-4 NSIC) head back out on the road next weekend to take on the University of Mary Marauders and the Minot State University Beavers. Tip-off against the Marauders is currently scheduled for Friday, Jan. 24, at 5:30 PM.
