UMD Soccer Falls to St. Cloud State 2-1 on the Road

The University of Minnesota Duluth soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss to St. Cloud State University Sunday at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud, Minn. 


The Bulldogs struck first on a multiple player effort off a corner kick that finally resulted in a Kati Beaver goal in the 23rd minute.


That UMD lead would last until the 57:20 mark when Darby Allen buried a penalty kick to draw SCSU even at 1-1. The Huskies scored the eventual game-winner in the 78th minute, a quick transition one-timed strike from Linsey Trapino to push SCSU into the first, and final goal of the game.


Senior goalkeeper Kaycee Chavez had seven saves in the game on nine shots. SCSU outshot the Bulldogs overall 14-10 and on goal 9-4, despite UMD having outshot the Huskies overall 8-2 in the opening half. UMD also had a 5-2 corner kick advantage in the game. 


St. Cloud State, who had three saves from goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland, improve to 7-1-3 overall and 5-1-2 in NSIC action.


The Bulldogs (3-5-3, 2-4-2) will return home to face Minnesota State University, Moorhead Friday night in James S. Malosky Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
