After coming off two solid performances with back-to-back wins on Tuesday, the University of Minnesota Duluth ran into slight hiccup on its final day of its 2025 spring break expedition Thursday in tropical Orlando, Fla. The Bulldogs dropped to 4-5 on the season falling to Connecticut College and Grinnell College to wrap up non-conference action this spring.
The freshman duo of
Sydney Friedrich and
Isabelle Simon won the lone match against Camels. Friedrich and Simon improved to 3-1 this season when paired together as they pulled out a 7-6 (7-4 tie breaker) win for their third consecutive win.
Junior
Carly Chaney won her No. 2 singles bout 7-6, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) against the Pioneers' Nehir Ergun. Chaney has been victorious in singles play in three of the last four matches. She and her partner senior
Olivia Honsey defeated Kayla Surpless and Kalea Martin 6-4 in doubles No. 2. Both Chaney and Honsey are 2-0 this year and 2-0 when paired together.
Chaney wasn't the only Bulldog to head to a third-round tie breaker against Grinnell. Senior
Luana da Silva narrowly lost to Isabel Voinescu 6-7, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9) at No. 1. Junior
Lilly Nelson was also in a nail biter falling 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (11-9) to Keira Healy.
The Bulldogs return to action Saturday, March 22 for a pair of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference matches against Winona State and Minnesota State University, Mankato at the Sta-Fit in Sartell, Minn.
