Making its return to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action, the University of Minnesota Duluth suffered back-to-back setbacks to the Winona State University and Minnesota State University, Mankato Friday at the Sta-Fit in Sartell, Minn.
The Bulldogs were bested by the Warriors 5-2 in the afternoon session and then suffered an 7-0 setback to the Mavericks that following evening. UMD (4-7 overall) got a victory at doubles No. 3 from senior
Olivia Honsey and junior
Carly Chaney against the Winona State pairing of Nikita Agrawal and Debra Ogdahl. That dynamic duo moved to 3-0 together this season as neither Honsey nor Chaney have not dropped a doubles decision yet this spring.
Against Winona State (6-8 overall, 2-2 NSIC), the Bulldogs notched a pair of singles wins. Chaney posted her team-leading fourth singles win of the year, taking down Halle Rosentreter 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2. Freshman
Isabelle Simon played in the match of the day against Ally Burger, which went to a third-set tie breaker. Simon secured the victory winning 6-4, 0-6, 15-13 tie breaker at singles No. 4.
Against MSU Mankato (6-1 overall; 3-0 NSIC), Honsey lost a back-and-forth three-set match (1-6, 6-0, 6-2) at No. 5 singles to Elizabeth Felderman, who has won four of the last five matches in singles competition.
UMD will return home to the Duluth Sports Indoor Center to take on the University of Mary (Friday) and Minnesota State University Moorhead (Saturday) in two more conference matches.
