The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team opened up their four game series with the Minnesota State University Mankato Mavericks this afternoon in St. Peter, Minn., dropping the series opener 10-0.
Â
Final Score: UMD (0) - MSU (10)
Â
A single up the middle for Gabe Richardson and a double down the right field line for Troy Lynch got the Bulldogs going in the top of the first inning, but the Maverick defense would keep them from getting on the board.
Â
MSU were the first ones to add points to the scoreboard in the afternoon, putting together a six run bottom of the first that was closed out with a two run home run from Ben Palmer.
Â
The Mavericks added another run on the board, building their lead to 7-0 before the top of the fifth inning. Back to back singles from Kade Peloquin and Hayden Anthony added two more hits on the stat sheet for the Bulldogs, but they would go down with both runners left on base.
Â
Three more runs for the Mavericks in the bottom of the sixth were tallied before the end of the game, handing the Bulldogs the loss in game one 10-0.
