Bulldog Tennis Toppled Twice This Weekend by NSIC Foes This Weekend

The University of Minnesota Duluth continued on its diet of Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference competition this weekend at the Duluth Indoor Sports Center in Duluth, Minn., and dropped a pair of matches to the University of Mary and Minnesota State University Moorhead.

As part of the Green Bandana Project, the Bulldogs played their role this weekend to help raise mental health awareness with a match dedicating to the cause. The Green Bandana Project is a student athlete-led mental health awareness campaign that was started by the athletic department's SAAC (Student Athlete Advisory Committee) in the Fall of 2019. The Green Bandana Project seeks to decrease the stigma of mental illness within our athletic department and university, support those struggling with mental illness and suicidal thoughts, and provide mental health resources and awareness.

Senior Olivia Honsey compiled her second win of the season in singles action. Honsey defeated U-Mary's Luba Moyo 1-6, 7-5, 10-6 in No. 6 singles on Friday.

This weekend also spelled the return of freshman Olivia Gorton, who was sidelined for a month after starting the spring 3-0. Getting her feet back under her, Gorton dropped both her singles matches but got the nod to premiere at No. 3 on Saturday.

In addition, Honsey and junior Carly Chaney had their undefeated doubles campaign come to a halt after the duo went 3-0. They lost a nailbiter Friday 7-6, 7-3 and lost a hard-fought 7-5 decision Saturday against MSU-Moorhead.

UMD returns to action Saturday, April 5 when it faces St. Cloud State University in Sartell, Minn.
