The University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team kicked off a three game home series against the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles today, scoring on a pass ball to walk off game two and sweep UMC in the Saturday doubleheader.
Â
Game One: UMD (3) - UMC (2)
Â
The Bulldogs were first to get some offensive production in the bottom of the second, putting runners in scoring position with back to back singles and advancing on a sacrifice bunt.Â
Â
A sacrifice fly from Caden Klebba tallied the opening run before an RBI base hit from Nick Thompson quickly made it 2-0. Another run would come across the plate on an RBI double from Sam Kliber before the end of the inning.
Â
The Golden Eagles finally got themselves on the board in the top of the sixth, tallying two runs on a base hit with runners on second and third. Those two runs would be all they can muster though, with the Bulldogs coming out on top 3-2 to start off the day.
Â
Game Two: UMD (7) - UMC (6)
Â
A pair of RBI doubles in the top of the first gave the Golden Eagles a quick 3-0 lead to open game two. Bulldogs did not let those runs go unanswered though, tallying two runs on a sacrifice fly from Troy Lynch and an RBI base hit from Garrett Stauffacher to minimize the deficit.Â
Â
The Bulldogs quickly tied it all up in the bottom of the third with a solo home run from Nathan Rosenberg, and took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth on an inside the park home run from Lynch.
Â
UMD added one more run in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI sacrifice fly from Ethan Pettis before UMC took their shot to respond, tallying three runs and taking a 6-5 advantage with a pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
Â
A leadoff walk for UMD in the bottom of the ninth brought Rosenberg back up to bat, tying the game on an RBI double over the UMC right fielder. The Bulldogs were quick to load the bases again with only one out left in the game. With a one and one pitch count, a pitch in the dirt found its way past the UMC catcher and allowed Rosenberg to come home for the walk-off victory.
