Despite an early end to the meet due to weather Saturday, the University of Minnesota Duluth men's and women's track teams turned in strong performances at the Gene Glader Invitational in St. Paul, Minn.
In men's field events, senior Jackson Weston won with a shot put throw of 16.36, the 37th furthest throw of the young season in all of NCAA Division II. Senior Will Heydt placed second in the men's long jump with a 6.95m jump that also doubled as the 82nd-best jump in the NCAA.
On the men's track side, the 4x100m made up of Cole Ohnstad, Billy Auvin, Brayden Brakke and Brady Johnson won with a 41.47 time – the 75th fastest in the nation so far this season. Brakke also finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 10.90, while freshman Isaac Dickenson finished third in the 1,500m with a run of 4:03.45.
The women's 4x100m relay finished second with a race of 48.18 – the 83rd fastest NCAA time. That relay was made of Brookyln Silloway, Avary Fitzpatrick, Halle Theis and Kate Fitzgerald.
Lillian Wanzek finished second in the 100m hurdlers with a run of 14.48, good for the 52nd fastest time this season. Freshman Emily Beaham ran the 80th fastest NCAA time of 1:03.27 in the 400m hurdlers en route to a second place finish, while Ellie Hanowski was third in the 800m with a 2:16.33 time. Senior Madeline Verkerke picked up right where she left off in indoor with a run of 4:38.05 in the 1,500m, the 75th fastest NCAA time this season.
On the field, junior Graycee Roubinek placed third in the discus throw with a 39.71m throw, and finished first with a javelin throw of 38.05m. Freshman Ilm'aime Ntambwe placed third in the women's triple jump with a 11.07 jump.
The Bulldog teams will spilt between the Bryan Clay Invitational next weekend in Azusa, Calf. and the Phil Esten Challenge in La Crosse, Wis.
