The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team had five players named American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) Krampade All-American Scholars, an honor that once again recognizes varsity ice hockey players who compiled exceptional results in the classroom.
Â
Those five Bulldogs were junior goaltender Eve Gascon, junior defenseman Ida Karlsson, freshman forward Ava MacLeod, graduate defenseman Ashley Messier and senior defenseman Krista Parkkonen. All four of UMD's upperclassmen – Gascon, Karlsson, Messier and Parkkonen are repeat honorees.
Â
To qualify a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for each semester and had to appear in 40% of the team's games. Exceptions were granted to injured players and back-up goalies. Schools also were required to be members of the AHCA.
Â
Gascon was also one of just seven athletes who not only earned this academic status but were also voted as CCM/AHCA All-Americans for their on-ice play. The native of Mascouche, Quebec has earned both honors in back-to-back seasons.
