BULLDOGS DEFEAT OHIO STATE 2-1 TO EARN WCHA SWEEP

The University of Minnesota Duluth swept its second WCHA series in a row with a 2-1 victory at Ohio State on Sat., Oct. 25. This was the lowest scoring game of the season thus far for the Bulldogs. UMD moves to 19-1-2 all-time against the Buckeyes and 4-2-0, 4-2-0 WCHA on the season.

The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first when rookie Jessica Koizumi hit the back of the net at 7:06 in the first period. Koizumi’s goal was an all-freshman collaboration as she scored off assists from Allison Lehrke and Noemie Marin.

Nora Tallus scored the ultimate game-winning goal at 17:48 in the second when she scored a shorthanded goal. The Buckeyes finally got on the board at 12:10 in the third.

Next up for the Bulldogs will be a non-conference series against St. Lawrence on Nov. 1-2. The puck will drop at 2:35 p.m. on Saturday and 2:05 on Sunday. Saturdays contest will be on channel 10.

Notes: UMD was outshot for the first time this season (32-34)...Jenny Potter had a 17-game point scoring and a five-game goal scoring streak snapped...Caroline Ouellette extended her point scoring streak to four games...Nora Tallus’s shorthanded goal was the second on the season for UMD...goaltender Riitta Schaublin’s 33 saves were the most saves on the season for Bulldog goaltenders, the previous high was 19 on Oct. 10...UMD was 0-6 on the power-play, this was the second time this season that the Bulldogs did not capitalize in the extra skater situation...Noemie Marin tallied her first career assist...Juliane Jubinville missed tonight’s game due to an injury she received during Fridays contest.
