The University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team beat North Dakota 9-3 on Friday, Nov. 14. The Bulldogs saw four goals by junior Caroline Ouellette to lead the team to victory.

Rookie Noemie Marin opened the scoring at 5:41 in the first period when she sent on to the back of the net right in front of Fighting Sioux goaltender Margaret Ann Hinkley. North Dakota struck back at 13:52 to tie the game up with a goal by Meghan Mutrie. Caroline Ouellette then scored the first of two shorthanded goals on the evening at 16:55 in the first stanza, followed by a goal by Jessica Koizumi at 17:48. North Dakota would then send one more past goaltender Riitta Schaublin at 18:53 to end the period.

The second period scoring started at 3:04 when Jenny Potter scored. UMD then scored two more unanswered goals in the second by Allison Lehrke and Caroline Ouellette.

In the third period UMD scored three goals to North Dakota's one to finish the game with the 9-3 victory. Ouellette scored two goals in the period, including her second shorthanded goal of the night at 12:26.

The Bulldogs and North Dakota will tangle again tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 15) in the second game of the non-conference series. The puck will drop at 2:05 p.m.

Notes: Goaltender Shannon Kasparek skated as a forward for the Bulldogs for the first time in here career this evening...Ouellette's two shorthanded goals tied the school record for shorthanded goals in a game...Ouellette's hat-trick was the second by a UMD player this season and the second game in a row for a single Bulldog player to light up the lamp three time in a single outing.
