FORMER BULLDOG SHARP MAKES NHL DEBUT

The University of Minnesota Duluth added another alumnus to the National Hockey League registry Thursday night (Nov. 19) when MacGregor Sharp hit the ice for the Anaheim Ducks in their 4-3 overtime home victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Sharp, a native of Red Deer, Alberta, skated eight shifts for a total of 5:23 while centering the Ducks' fourth line. He signed a free agent contract with Anaheim last March, just three days after putting the wraps on a rewarding senior season with the Bulldogs. A member of the 2009 Final Five All-Tournament Team and All-College Hockey News second team, Sharp finished atop the UMD scoring charts for the second straight season -- the first Bulldog to do so in 11 years -- with 26 goals ( second most in the nation) and 24 assists. The 26 overall goals and 50 points as well as his six game winners were all tops among WCHA players. He also collected a team-best 12 points (seven goals and five assists) during UMD's seven-game postseason run, which included the conquest of the WCHA playoff championship. Sharp, who skated in all but one of the 158 outings since joining the Bulldogs, including the last 115 in row, closed out his UMD career riding a personal-high 11-game scoring streak, picking up 21 points (12 goals and nine assists) and a pair of hat tricks during that stretch. He was an WCHA All-Academic Team honoree as both a sophomore and junior.

Sharp became the 43rd former Bulldog to skate in a NHL game since the 1971-72 season.
