ANAHEIM DUCKS SIGN UMD'S SHARP TO CONTRACT

Just three days after taking off his collegiate skates for last time, University of Minnesota Duluth senior standout center MacGregor Sharp has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the National Hockey League's Anaheim Ducks.  Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed. Sharp is scheduled to report to the Iowa Chops, Anaheim's primary development affiliate in the American Hockey League.

Sharp, a 6-1, 195-pound native of Red Deer, Alberta, finished atop the Bulldog scoring charts this past winter  for the second straight season -- the first Bulldog to do so in 11 years. A member of the 2009 Final Five All-Tournament Team and  All-College Hockey News second team, Sharp wrapped up his farewell season with the WCHA playoff champion Bulldogs with  26 goals (the second most by a UMD skater since the 1994-95 season and the second most in the nation this season) and 24 assists for 50 points. The 26 overall goals and 50 points as well as his six game winners were all tops among WCHA players. He also collected  a team-best 12 points (seven goals and five assists) during UMD's seven-game postseason run, which included the conquest of the WCHA playoff championship.  Sharp, who skated in all but one of the 158 outings since joining the Bulldogs, including the last 115 in row, closed out his UMD career riding a personal-high 11-game scoring streak, picking up  21 points (12 goals and nine assists)  and a pair of hat tricks during that stretch.  He was an WCHA All-Academic Team honoree as both a sophomore and junior.
