ROOTH, POTTER AND OUELLETTE REACHING MILESTONES IN 2009 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

They may be considered the elders of their respective national teams, but three former University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey players have reached epic milestones this week in Hameenlinna, Finland at the 2009 IIHF World Championship.

Sweden's Maria Rooth, the only Bulldog ever to have had her number retired above the DECC ice, scored her 100th goal in international play yesterday in Sweden's 9-0 stomp of Kazakhstan.  And while current UMD player junior forward Elin Holmlov tallied a hat trick during the outing, it was Rooth who was honored with the game puck following the contest.

Another alum and former assistant coach, Caroline Ouellette, also reached a summit of her own by dishing out two assists Wednesday's in Canada's 8-0 victory over Finland.  Ouellette's two points put her over the 150 career point mark in international play, with 150 cummlative points.

Ouellette and Rooth join their former Bulldog teammate Jenny Potter, who opened up World Championship play on April 4th against Japan by registering two assists to give her 100 for her Team USA career.  Potter now has 101 assists for the U.S.

During the 2002-2003 season, all three players helped UMD win its third-straight NCAA title, the only season all three were members of the same Bulldog squad.  All three were also named to the WCHA's All-Decade Team this past February, the WCHA's highest honor to date.
