When she's not suiting up for Team Canada, former University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey player and assistant coach Caroline Ouellette certainly isn't taking any time off. The Montréal Stars' forward has been selected the Most Valuable Player for the 2008-09 Canadian Women's Hockey League season.
A native of Montreal, Ouellette led her team to a first-place finish with a league-record 25 wins. She led the league with 33 assists and finished second with 26 goals, 59 points and a 2.46 points-per-game average. Ouellette was the CWHL's Top Scorer in November and December and helped the Stars set a league record with nine-straight wins from October 11 to December 22. She also set a league record by scoring at least one point in 18 consecutive games, stretching a streak from October 18 through January 18. In all, she scored a point in 22 of her 24 regular-season games.
After a tremendous regular season, Ouellette led the Stars to a playoff championship in Kingston. Ouellette and the Stars defeated the Minnesota Whitecaps in the 21 March final to win the inaugural edition of the Clarkson Cup.
The Canadian Womens Hockey League provides elite-level womens players a competitive environment to showcase their on-ice skills. The six teams in the league are the Brampton Canadette-Thunder, Burlington Barracudas, Mississauga Chiefs, Stars de Montréal, Ottawa Senators, and Vaughan
