WILFAHRT, JR., TOSSES HIS WAY TO NORTHERN SUN WEEKLY HONOR

For the second time in as many weeks, the performance of a University of Minnesota Duluth baseball team member shone brightest among Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference hard ballers. UMD senior co-captain Gary Wilfahrt, Jr., turned in two impressive mound performances in the past seven days, earning him the league's Pitcher of the Week Honor today, Mar. 23.

Following in the footsteps of Bulldog teammate junior shortstop Tyler Erickson, who garnered player of the week honors last Monday, Wilfahrt, Jr., went 2-0 in his two starts for the Maroon and Gold. The New Ulm, Minn., native picked up non-conference victories against NSIC foes Augustana College (3-2) on Mar. 16 and the University of Mary (5-1), on Mar. 22 at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. The righty struck out 12 batters and opponents mustered a paltry .171 batting average against the hurler.

Wilfahrt, Jr., and the rest of the 2010 Bulldogs will take their act outdoors for the first time (in the northern portion of the country) this season tomorrow, Wednesday Mar. 24. UMD will travel to Concordia University, St. Paul, with first pitch at Barnes Field slated for a 2 p.m., start. There will be a free audio broadcast of non-conference doubleheader tilt available at the link found here. Live stats will also be available.
