REGISTRATION OPENS FOR UMD HOLIDAY CAMPS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
12/3/2011

Registration is now open for the annual Holiday Baseball Camps. The University of Minnesota Duluth coaching staff has once again opened its doors to offer instructional clinics over winter break, with specialized clinics broken down by age group, skill level, and position. This season, there will be three offerings.

The Bulldog Pitching/Catching Camp, taking place on Friday, December 30, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m., will offer instruction to pitchers and catchers between grades 5-12.  Pitching instruction will focus on developing mechanics conducive to improving both velocity and command, while emphasizing ways to build arm strength, learn new pitches, and protect the throwing arm. Catching instruction will focus on the techniques for catching, blocking and throwing, while teaching the young catchers how to manage a game from behind the plate. Catchers are encouraged to bring their personal gear.

The Bulldog Hitting Camp, taking place on Friday, December 30, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., is open to athletes between grades 5-12. Those enrolled will receive expert instruction on the finer techniques of hitting and offense, and will be exposed to several of the offensive concepts preached at the collegiate level. Emphasis will also be placed on situational hitting approaches, and proper mindset while in the batter's box.

The Future Bulldog Prospect Camp will be a three-hour event on Friday, December 30, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. This camp is open to serious high school athletes in grades 9-12, and will offer professional feedback on how to take their game to the next level. Professional scouts, Les Pajari of the Cleveland Indians organization, and Mark Wilson of the Minnesota Twins, will be in attendance at this camp. Pajari and Wilson will, along with the UMD coaching staff, evaluate foot speed, arm strength and hitting abilities. Video-taped analysis will be used to help each individual reach his full potential. Catchers are encouraged to bring their personal gear.

Participants attending multiple camps may be eligible for discounted pricing. For more details, go to http://www.umdbulldogs.com/camps-clinics-page.php?page=125. . Questions may be directed to UMD Head Coach Bob Rients, via email at rrients@d.umn.edu, or by phone at (218) 726-7967.
