FULL UMD VS ST. CLOUD STATE NOTES

THE SERIES:
UMD is 48-9-3 all-time against the Huskies and own a 13-game unbeaten streak against SCSU after sweeping the season last year.  The Bulldogs outscored the Huskies 20-5 in four games in 2012-13.

Their last series encounter was on Jan. 12-13 at AMSOIL, a 3-1 and 8-2 sweep for UMD.  The Bulldogs 8-2 triumph was the most goals by a UMD squad since Dec, 3m 2011.

Four players had three or more points in the series against the Huskies, including then senior Jessica Wong (2g, 3a), Jamie Kenyon (4g), then senior center Katie Wilson (2g, 1a), and blueliner Tea Villila (1g, 2a).

UMD outshot SCSU 41-21 on the Jan. 12 game and 39-25 on Jan. 13 to own a 80-46 advantage in shots in the series.

UMD has not lost to the Huskies as a program since Nov. 6, 2009, a 5-1 loss in St. Cloud, Minn.

LAST TIME OUT: No. 9 UMD picked up the series sweep against Minnesota State last weekend in Mankato by scores of 6-2 and 3-1, UMD's first WCHA wins since Feb. 10 of last season (also against MSU).

The Bulldogs scored three power play goals in Friday's 6-2 win and had two goals from both Jamie Kenyon and Zoe Hickel.  Saturday rookie blue liner Sidney Morin netted two goals, including one from the point with 2:56 for the game-winner to defeat the Mavericks 3-1.  Kenyon had her second multiple point game on the weekend with a goal and an assist.

UMD scored four power play goals on the weekend, with two coming from Kenyon.

NOTES FROM THE MINNESOTA STATE SERIES: With the sweep in Mankato, UMD is now 51-7-1 all-time against the Mavericks.  Four players recorded multiple point games, including Jamie Kenyon(2g), Jenna McParland (3a) and Zoe Hickel (2g, 2a) Friday night, and Sidney Morin (2g) and Kenyon (1g, 1a) Saturday.

--The Bulldogs were 3-of-4 with an extra skater Friday night and overall netted four power play goals in the series.  Kenyon tallied two of the four.

--UMD was also a part of penalty kill unit that kept the Mavericks scoreless on five attempts Saturday and overall allowed just one goal on 10 power-play tries in the series.

--MSU actually outshot the Bulldogs 31-27 Friday but were outscored 6-2.  UMD put 39 shots on net Saturday to the Maverick's 25.

MORIN NAMED WCHA ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:  Rookie defenseman Sidney Morin helped the Bulldogs sweep Minnesota State in Mankato last weekend, recording three points, including two goals on Saturday. Morin assisted on the game-winner Friday night before one-timing the game-winner from the point Saturday night with just 2:56 remaining in the game to give UMD the lead.

Morin has recorded a point in her last three games, compiling three goals and an assist in those skates.  Prior to Saturday's contest, Morin had netted one goal in her first six UMD skates.

POWERED PLAY:  UMD scored four power play goals last weekend, with two coming from Jamie Kenyon.  Kenyon leads the NCAA with four power play goals in her first eight games and has helped push the Bulldogs into the No. 7 spot in the nation with an extra skater.  Zoe Hickel's shorthanded goal last Friday night was her second of the season and UMD's third.  Ranked seventh in the NCAA, the Bulldogs penalty kill unit sits at 90.2, shutting down 37 of 41 opponent power plays.  UMD has been perfect on the penalty kill six out of its eight games so far this season.

OFFENSE TAKEN:  With the nation's fifth most potent offense and third highest in the WCHA, the Bulldogs are averaging 3.88 goals a game, scoring 31 in their first eight skates.  Junior winger Jenna McParland leads UMD with 12 points on five goals and seven assists and currently owns a three-game scoring streak with one goals and five assists over those last three skates.  Jamie Kenyon, who ranks second in scoring (5g, 5a)) along with rookie blueliner Lara Stalder (2g, 8a), also has recorded points in her last three outings, having netted three goals and two assists for five points.  Stalder ranks as the third highest scoring rookie in the nation, having compiled 10 points in eight skates for a 1.25 ppt average, which also ranks her sixth in the nation in scoring among all defensemen.  With eight assists in eight games, Stalder also sits seventh in the NCAA with a 1.00 assist per game average.

Interesting enough, despite being one of the highest scoring teams in the NCAA, UMD is still just 3-2 when it nets three or more goals in contest.

BULLDOG NOTES:  UMD will be without the services of senior center Brienna Gillanders who will be out of the Bulldog line-up indefinitely due to injury...Sophomore goaltender Kayla Black is just 31 saves away from tying Patricia Sautter-Elsmore for the fifth most career saves in Bulldog program history...Sautter-Elsmore made 1,019 stops at UMD in 58 games, while Black has made 988 in 38 skates.
