Junior guard Reece Zoelle was seven-for-11 from the floor for the University of Minnesota Duluth, but the Bulldogs fell on the road to Michigan Tech University by a 78-58 final on Saturday afternoon.

Zoelle finished with 16 points to lead UMD (1-1), with a pair of threes, four rebounds, and two steals in 25 minutes of work. Senior guard Peter Crawford added 12 points and was five-of-six from the floor. Junior Kristofer Jackson led the Bulldogs with six rebounds.

UMD opened up a seven-point lead just five minutes into the game, but the Huskies (1-0) whittled away at the deficit and took the lead for good on a Jason Hawke three-pointer right after the eight-minute mark and opened up a 14-point lead before the end of the half. The Bulldogs controlled the game in the paint, outscoring MTU 28-24, but the Huskies' bench came up big, outscoring UMD's 25-12.

The Bulldogs will not have time to dwell on the defeat as they return home to host their border rivals from the University of Wis.-Superior on Tuesday evening. The annual bridge game is set to tip off at 8:00 p.m.
