Box Score The No. 9 University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team picked up exactly where it had left off two weeks.
The Bulldogs extended their current win streak to six games strong by offensively throttling St. Cloud State University 6-1 at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Arena in St. Cloud, Minn. Friday night. Â WIth the win, UMD improves to 7-4-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association.
Despite all but four of the Bulldogs' players having last weekend off from outside competition, UMD showed the same offensive prowess that it had owned two weeks earlier. Â
Ashleigh Brykaliuk opened up the scoring 9:11 into the first period, the first of three points the sophomore forward would record on the night to extend her current scoring streak to five games. Â
Lara Stalder's pass redirected off a SCSU defenseman at 15:05 to push the Bulldogs ahead 2-0, and UMD would use three second period goals, including two by sophomore center Katerina Mrázová, to break the game open for good.
Nine Bulldogs got on the scoresheet, with five players punching in two or more points. Â Brykaliuk had two assists to go with her score, while Mrazova,
Tea Villila (two assists),
Brigette Lacquette (one goal, one assist) and
Jenna McParland (two assists) each had two points. Â Lacquette, along with
Sidney Morin, netted power play goals for UMD, who was 2-of-4 with an extra skater. Â
The Bulldogs outshot the Huskies 38-20, and junior netminder
Kayla Black made 17 saves in 44:06 minutes of work. Â
Karissa Grapp turned in two saves in relief of Black for 15:50 of action.
UMD will attempt its third-straight series sweep tomorrow against SCSU when the two squads hit the ice again at 3:07 p.m.
