Box Score Upper Iowa University extended its five-game winning streak while stopping the University of Minnesota Duluth's at three as the Peacocks knocked off UMD 87-85 in Fayette in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference interdivisional match-up on Friday night in Fayette, Iowa.
The Bulldogs (10-13, 8-11 NSIC) took a one-point lead to the halftime break after building up an early six-point lead. Upper Iowa (13-12, 11-8 NSIC) showed why it entered the game on a winning streak by battling back in the second half, taking the lead as Upper Iowa pulled ahead to 59-57 on a Bo Pagel three-point just eight minutes into the half after UMD had at one-point extended its lead to 51-57.
The Bulldogs showed grit in the closing minutes as the teams battled to their twelfth tie of the night before Upper Iowa took a five-point lead at 85-80 with 22 seconds. UMD made good on three straight possession, while sending the Peacocks to the foul line where UIU was just 4-of-6 while trying to put the game on ice, including a rare miss by guard Joey Woods, who led the way with 23 points for the Peacocks. Jordan Reetz three-pointer with just seconds to go, the Bulldogs had a chance off a missed free throw by Upper Iowa, but Peacocks guard Jordan Hay picked off the last-second pass to send the Dorman Gym fans home happy.
Senior guard
Peter Crawford, who entered the game having started 104 straight games for UMD left the game early with an apparent injury, but his fellow senior, Reetz, picked him up, finishing with 27 points to lead all scorers on the night. Junior guard
Junior Coleman had one of his best games of the year for UMD, shooting 10-of-18 on the night for a season-high 21 points. Junior

Jake Wilson had a career-nigh with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting in relief of Crawford.
UMD shot 51.6 percent in the opening half but just 43.8 percent in the second. The Bulldogs continued to make good on free throws, 19-of-23 for the night. Junior
Kristofer Jackson had a game-high eight rebounds as UMD out-rebounded Upper Iowa 40-27 on the night.
The road ahead gets no easier for the Bulldogs as they head to Winona State University tomorrow evening. Opening tip is set for 6:00 p.m., following the women's contest.
