The University of Minnesota Duluth will have a familiar road trip ahead of it when the Bulldogs travel to Mauston, Wis. for the second time in a week to get in game action. UMD takes on Concordia University, St. Paul on Wednesday afternoon in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader.

The Bulldogs (4-12, 0-6 NSIC) suffered a setback last weekend as Minnesota State swept UMD in a four-game set in Mauston. MSU had luck, and late-game heroics, on its side as it took four close games from the Bulldogs.

Sophomore first baseman Alex Wojciechowski and freshman right fielder Matt Vogt continued to lead the UMD offense. Wojciechowski batted .375/.412/.375 with six singles, four runs batted in, and four runs scored. Vogt had three doubles, hitting .333/.333/.533 (5-for-15), while driving in four and scoring a run. The Bulldogs had 32 hits, while allowing 34, and hit .248/.295/.310 as a squad. Also notable was senior Cody Aasen's three-run home run as part of a six-run comeback that fell just short in game four.

Pitchers Bo Hellquist (So.) and Wes Mleziva (Jr.) continue to be the unlucky recipients of a lack of offense, each allowing just three runs in their starts but combining to strike out 12 in 13 innings and allowing just 13 baserunners. Mleziva remains without a win on the season despite posting a 3.05 ERA in 20.2 innings in his first season with UMD. The bullpen combined for seven innings, allowing six runs on 11 hits, though six Bulldog relievers got out of the weekend with a spotless ERA in 5.0 combined innings.

Concordia-St. Paul (11-5, 3-3 NSIC) also comes into the series reeling, dropping three of four to No. 15 St. Cloud State over the weekend, but won last time out, 2-1 over the Huskies.

As a squad, the Golden Bears are batting .306/.396/.368. CU has scored seven or more runs in eight of their 16 games, including three games of double-digit runs and 20 in a non-conference game against NSIC rival Bemidji State. Junior second baseman Kyle Dalton is second in the league in batting average at .484, third in on-base percentage at .521, and fifth in slugging at .613. His double-play partner, sophomore shortstop Eric Fasnacht is not far behind with a .453/.525/.547 batting line.

CU pitchers have held opponents to a .262/.347/.337 batting line, with senior Adam Kramer and sophomore Zach Rengel leading the way with a combined 1.76 ERA and 6-2 record in eight starts. The pair pitched on Saturday against St. Cloud State, and the Huskies scored seven runs, but just a pair earned against each of the aces, knocking Rengel out after five innings while Kramer pitched seven complete, but allowed ten hits. Sophomore Tyler Brekke has also had some success with a 3.86 ERA in three appearances, tossing 14.0 innings and striking out 12 batters.

Opening pitch is set for 1:30 p.m. at the Woodside Sports Complex.
