BOWEN ADDS FIVE TO 2016-17 ROSTER IN 2015 EARLY SIGNING PERIOD

University of Minnesota Duluth head coach Matt Bowen and his staff have added five players to the 2016-17 recruiting class during the 2015 early signing period including two local products from the state of Wisconsin.

A 6-foot-6-inch, near-200-pound forward from Eagan, Minnesota, Trenton Krueger started the past three seasons for St. Croix Lutheran High School. Entering his senior season, he has helped lead St. Croix Luthern to back-to-back Tri-Metro Confererence titles and earned All-Conference honors each of the last two years. Last year, he was named to the Minnesota State All-Tournament team.

The first of two local standouts is Superior High School native Brandon Myer. The 6-foot-7-inch forward averaged 10 points and 5.5 rebounds in being named team MVP a season ago for the Spartans. Myer also played football for the Spartans.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 185-pound guard Logan Rohrscheib comes to UMD via Eau Claire, Wisconsin, having started four seasons for Eau Claire Regis High School. Entering his senior season, he has back-to-back Western Cloverbelt Conference championships, as well an an All-State selection in Wisconsin as a junior. He was named the team's MVP last year and selected for the Ramblers' "Playmaker Award" during both his freshman and sophomore campaigns. He also played quarterback for the Regis High School freshman football team before focusing on football. He is the cousin of current Bulldog quarterback Drew Bauer, and his mother Amy (Bauer) Rohrscheib and father Steve Rohrscheib are both former collegiate athletes: his mother on the University of Wisconsin basketball team and his father a quarterback for the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He plans to major in accounting at UMD.

UMD will add a considerable amount of size in 6-foot-8-inch, 215-pound center Ben Scherer of Blaine, Minnesota. He has played four seasons and started the last three for Blaine High SChool. Entering his senior season as the team captain, Scherer was the team's top scorer a season ago and was also voted All-Northwest Suburban Conference. His brother, Nathaniel, is already attending UMD for chemical engineering though the younger Scherer is currently undecided on a major.

Another big man and another local product joining the ranks for UMD is Washburn, Wisconsin standout Brant Schick. The 6-foot-6-inch, 210-pound forward will finish up a four-year career at Washburn High School as a team captain in 2015-16. Starting the past two seasons, he earned Indian Head Conference honors both years including a First Team selection last year. Along with current Bulldog freshman Cody Tomlinson, Schick helped lead the Castle Guards to the Wisconsin State tournament last season. He currently ranks 27th among seniors in Wisconsin. Off the court, Schick also played three seasons as a punter and helped lead the women's shelter movement at Washburn High. He plans to major in criminology at UMD.

All signings are contingent upon admission to UMD and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Clearinghouse.
