The University of Minnesota Duluth kick started its 2015-16 track and field season by making the six-block trek west to the College of St. Scholastica for The Opener and wrapped up that two-day event Saturday with six individual titles.
Placing first for the Bulldogs was freshman
Elizabeth Brunner in the triple jump (37'-6.75"), freshman
Michaela Hesse in the high jump (a NCAA II provisional-qualifying leap of 5'-05"), freshman
Danielle Kohlwey in the 60-meter hurdles (8.99), sophomore
Rachelle LeBlanc in the pole vault (11'-3.75"), freshman
Alyssa Nebo in the long jump (17'-8.75") and sophomore
Emilee Trost in the 3,000-meter run (9:48.7 -- a Burns Wellness Fieldhouse record, breaking the old of mark 10:17.16 set by UMD's Morgan Place in 2012, and an NCAA II provisional qualifiying time). Trost's time is the second fastest in the nation at moment while Hesse's high jump effort ranks 10th. Second-place finishes were also turned in by a trio of Bulldogs - senior
Lydia Kingsley in the weight throw (53'-2.25"), junior
Brittany Platt in the mile run (5:28.68) and sophomore
Courtney Spang in the pole vault (10'-00").
The Bulldogs will return to action on Jan. 9 to compete in the Bethel University Open in St. Paul, Minn.
