The University of Minnesota Duluth will look to prove its undefeated start to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season is no fluke as the Bulldogs head out on the road for this first time in the 2015-16 NSIC season.
UMD (6-2, 3-0 NSIC) will look for a victory over No. 4 Minnesota State University Moorhead this weekend almost a year-to-the-date after achieving an upset over the Dragons, then-ranked No. 14, last season at Romano Gym. First, the Bulldogs will face another tough test when they head to Aberdeen, South Dakota to take on Norhtern State University.
The December 13, 2014 defeat of MSU Moorhead was the first of last season for the Dragons. Rebounding and three-point shots proved the difference for UMD as the Bulldogs edged MSUM 60-58 in Duluth. The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Dragons 40-3, including double digit totals by both
Pierre Newton (11) and Brendon Pinedda (10). UMD held Moorhead to just 12 trips to the free throw line and 3-of-22 from beyond the arc while the Bulldogs were 8-of-16 from three including 3-of-6 from
Taylor Lavery. UMD led by as much as 11 just 15 minutes into the game at 27-16 and held on the rest of the way, allowing the Dragons to pull even but never surpass them in the second half.
SCOUTING THE WOLVES | 5-4, 1-2 NSIC

Northern State picked up its first victory of the NSIC season, knocking off Minot State University 87-80 last time out ... the Wolves are undefeated on their home court, sweeping a three-game homestand Nov. 27-30 ... NSU graduated a pair of All-NSIC selections a season ago ... senior guard Skye Warwick leads the Wolves averaging 14.7 points per game, one of five players averaging double digits for Northern State ... sophomore guard D.J. Pollard averaged a team-high 5.4 rebounds to go with 10.6 points per game ... head coach Paul Sather is in his sixth season leading the Wolves ... UMD split with Northern State last season, defeating the Wolves 67-63 on the road last time out on Feb. 14, 2015 ... the Bulldogs are 39-32 all-time against NSU.

No. 4 MSU Moorhead will host "Star Wars Night" as UMD comes to town Saturday night ... the Dragons have won 10-straight since falling to then-no. 11 California Baptist University 84-80 in overtime in the season opener ... MSUM knocked off Mayville State University (an NAIA institution) by 21 points, 77-56 last time out ... the Dragons graduated NSIC Co-Player of the Year Jordan Riewer after last year but return a pair of All-NSIC selections in senior center Isaac Sevlie and junior forward Aaron Lien ... Sevlie is averaging an astronomical 21.4 points per game on the year while grabbing 8.5 rebounds per game ... he's also knocked back two blocks per game ... Lien averages 11.6 ppg, one of four Dragons in double digits on the season ... UMD split with MSU Moorhead last season, falling to the Dragons 89-67 last season on Feb. 13, 2015 ... the Bulldogs are 77-39 all-time against MSUM.
