Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

LATE OVERTIME GOAL DOES IN NO. 7 BULLDOGS IN NCHC SERIES REMATCH WITH NO. 6 MIAMI

Miami University threw more shots on net -- substantially more -- than any other University of Minnesota Duluth opponent had all year Saturday night, but it was the last one that gave the RedHawks their first lead of the weekend and an overtime victory.

Blake Coleman scored with 62 seconds left in the extra session to cap a three-goal comeback and upend the Bulldogs 4-3 at Steve Cady Arena in Oxford, Ohio. No. 6 Miami outshot No. 7 UMD 49-22  en route to gaining a split in the two-game National Collegiate Hockey Conference series. The loss marked the first time in 14 games this season UMD failed to win after leading at the second intermission and prevented the the Bulldogs from leapfrogging both Miami and the University of Nebraska-Omaha into second place in the NCHC standings.  The 49 shots were the most allowed by a UMD club since Jan. 11, 2014 (53 in a 3-1 triumph at the University of Nebraska-Omaha).

The Bulldogs, who prevailed 3-1 Friday night (snapping Miami's five-game unbeaten streak), went up 1-0 midway through the first period when sophomore left winger Kyle Osterberg banged home a rebound on a delayed penalty for his fifth goal of the season, but first in 13 games. The two teams each scored twice in the second period with sophomores Carson Soucy and Alex Iafallo striking for UMD on power play shots the point. The goal by Iafallo, who had the primary assist on Soucy's score and now tops the 2014-15 Bulldogs with a career-high 25 points, put UMD ahead 3-1. Miami's Blake Coleman got the equalizer and ultimately forced overtime with  a 4-on-3 power play 2:18 into third.

UMD rookie goalie Kasimir Kaskisuo, who turned aside 30 of 31 Miami shots in the series opener, finished with 45 saves, including 23 in the second period when UMD was outshot 25-8. His RedHawk counterpart, Ryan McKay, made 19 stops on the night and the only one one by either team in overtime.

For the second night in row, UMD went 2-for-4 on the power play and held Miami, now 3-1-0 lifetime against UMD at home, to one goal in five opportunities with the man advantage.

The Bulldogs (19-12-1 overall; 11-8-1-0 NCHC) will return to AMSOIL Arena next Friday and Saturday to host Omaha in its 2014-15 regular season finales.
