Two days after downing Bemidji State University, the University of Minnesota Duluth made the most out of its final two home appearances of the 2015 season by posting victories over both the University of Minnesota Crookston and Gustavus Adolphus College Sunday at the Arrowhead Tennis Center. That hiked the Bulldogs' winning streak to four matches -- their longest such run since they rolled off six straight triumphs between March 5-April 2, 2011.
The 6-3 wins against Bemidji State and Gustavus Adolphus (non-conference) and the 7-2 takedown of Minnesota Crookston also evened UMD's overall record at 4-4 to go with a 3-1 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Sun Conference mark. Sophomore
Drew DeCorsey (No. 4) and
Kaitlin Wohnoutka (No. 5) and freshmen
Shelby Benkofske (No. 3) and
Jillian Klasen all went a perfect 3-0 in singles on the weekend, while DeCorsey and Benkofske accomplished that same feat at No. 2 doubles. Wohnoutka, who owns a team-leading 6-2 singles record this year, and Gillian have now both won four consecutive singles matches.
UMD will pay a visit to Sartell, Minn., next Saturday (Feb. 28) for NSIC assignments against Winona State University and Upper Iowa University and won't return ot the court for another month (March 28.)
