The University of Minnesota Duluth put the wraps on its 2015 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season Saturday in Sioux Falls, S.D., where the Bulldogs fell 8-1 to the University of Sioux Falls and 9-0 to regular season league champion Augustana Colllege.
The Bulldogs (5-10 overall; 4-7 in the NSIC) were bumped from the NSIC Tournament picture on Sunday after the University of Mary downed Winona State University to claim the eighth and final spot in the postseason event. UMD will close out the year next Sunday with a non-conference match at Bemidji State University.
UMD's lone victory against Sioux Falls came from freshman
Jillian Klasen at No. 6 singles (she defeated Abby Seignthaler 7-6, 6-4). In the loss to Augustana (18-2; 11-0), Christine Olivo needed a tie breaker (10-6) to oust UMD rookie
Shelby Benkofske. Benkofske and sophomore
Drew DeCorsey gave Berkley Darr and Heather Sullivan all they could handle at No. 2 doubles before succumbing 8-6.
Sophomore
Kaitlin Wohnoutka will head into the final week of the season sporting the best overall singles record (9-6), followed by Killian (8-7) and Benkofske (7-8). DeCorsey and Benkofske have the most doubles wins of any Bulldog tandem to date (5).
