UMD FINALIZES TRANSFER AND WALK-ON ADDITIONS TO 2016 ROSTER

Head coach Bob Rients and the University of Minnesota Duluth have added five players to the preseason baseball roster for 2016 including a pair of NCAA Division I transfers and three walk-ons.

Fargo, North Dakota native Alex Hook comes to Duluth after a two-year varsity career at Fargo Davies High School. The 6-foot-2-inch left-handed pitcher played on an Eastern Dakota Conference championship team that finished as North Dakota Class A state runners-up in 2015. Off the field, he was a member of DECA, earning two state championships, and founding the economics and academic knowledge bowl teams at Fargo Davies. He plans to double major in economics and market analytics at UMD.

A native of Byron, Minnesota, Evan Vick comes to Duluth after a three-year starting career as a right-handed pitcher for the Byron High School Bears. He was named team captain and earned a Hiawatha Valley Conference Honorable Mention a season ago. He also received the team's top pitcher award in 2015. He was a two-team academic letterwinner at Byron and participated in National Honor Society. He plans to major in actuarial science/statistcs at UMD.

The first of three transfers joining the Bulldogs is Dominic DeFeo, a catcher from Blue Springs, Missouri, who spent the last two seasons playing collegiate ball at Longview Community College. The 6-foot Defeo started two seasons at the varsity level for Blue Springs South High School as a backstop and designated hitter and also played football as a quarterback for the Jaguars. His uncle played professional baseball at the Double A level for the Erie Cardinals.

The 5-foot-8-inch outfielder Brett Milazzo made stops at a pair of NCAA Division I universities before landing in Duluth, first at Purdue University before transferring to University of North Carolina-Asheville and red-shirting during the 2015 season. He batted over .400 during his prep career at Carmel Catholic High School while swiping 56 bases in 57 attempts. He earned All-East Suburban Catholic Conference honors in 2013 and also earned all-conference honors as a wrestler during his freshman campaign. Off the field, he was an athletic scholar student and participated in National Honor Society. He will major in business with a health promotion minor at UMD.

Cretin-Derham Hall high school graduate Robbie Mouton comes back to Minnesota after spending two seasons, pitching at Bradley (Ill.) University where he earned Missouri Valley Conference Honor Roll selections in both seasons with the Braves as well as Dean's List selections at Bradley's engineering school. The 6-foot-3-inch southpaw, a native of Woodbury, Minnesota, did not see game action as a redshirt freshman a season ago. While at Cretin-Derham Hall, Mouton earned All-State honors by the Star Tribune and Pioneer Press as well as a Rawlings/Perfect Game Central All-Region Honorable Mention in 2013. Off the field, he was named Academic All-State and participated in National Honor Socity, Linke Crew, and the speech team. He plans to major in industrial engineering at UMD.
