BULLDOGS MAKE 2016 DEBUT AT NORTHWEST OPEN SATURDAY

The University of Minnesota Duluth ushered in 2016 Saturday with a select number of athletes competing in the Northwest Open on the University of Minnesota campus.

Five Bulldogs, including a pair of freshmen, collared individual titles. Among the quartet of first-place finishers was junior Brittany Platt, who took top honors in the mile with a time of 5:23.24 while freshman Megan Borowski was next at 5:25.24 and was immediately followed by three more Bulldogs in the 11-person event. Micheala Hesse finished first in the high jump (1.60 meters) and fellow rookie Alyssa Nebo topped the field in the long jump competition (5.37 meters). For Platt, Hesse and Nebo it was their second individual crowns in as many meets this indoor season. Senior All-Americans Chanel Miller (9.06 in the 60-meter hurdles) and Hannah Olson (2:23.26 in the 800-meter run) were the other two Bulldogs to claim a title Saturday. Freshman Danielle Kohwey placed a close second to Miller (9.08)

The Bulldogs will return to the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse next Saturday (Jan. 16) for the Minnesota Open.
