Box Score 2 Taking its show indoors for the first time in 2016, the University of Minnesota Duluth split a pair of non-conference assigments against Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rivals Monday at the West St. Paul Sports Dome. Despite a no-hit performance from senior pitcher
Cayli Sadler, the Bulldogs fell 1-0 to Bemidji State University before rebounding with a 15-3 five-inning thrashing of Minnesota State University-Moorhead.
Sadler struck out six and walked three while tossed her first career no-hitter against Bemidji State, which was making its 2016 debut. The Beavers scratched across the the only run it would on a throwing error in the fourth. The Bulldogs mustered just two hits of their own -- one each by junior leftfielder
Hailey Lundquist and senior third baseman
Sami Schnyder -- and left three runners in scoring position.
The bats came alive and the Bulldogs exploded out of the gate versus MSU-Moorhead. UMD rolled up seven runs in the first and third innings to put this game out of reach early. Sophomore shortstop

Natalie Wright led the offensive attack as Smith blasted her second and third home runs of the season while Wright homered once and drove in three runs. The Bulldogs collected season highs for hits (11) and stolen bases (5) while making a winner out of junior pitcher
Sam Hartmann (1-1), who limited the Dragons (0-1 overall) to six hits.
"We just couldn't find a way to get the bat on the ball against Bemidji," said UMD head coach
Jen Walter. "Jessica Yost is a good pitcher and she can single-handedly beat teams. Cayli threw great -- I don't know what else she can do. We have to figure out a way to score runs in that situation to get her the victory. We had a little more focus and drive in the second game and it made all the difference in the world."

"We let one get away and as a team we came in with a different mentally and a chip on our shoulders against Moorhead," said Smith, who has 14 career home runs. "We have a rematch tomorrow with Bemidji. We know what to expect and have to make our adjustments earlier.
UMD (2-4) will be back at the West St. Paul Sports Dome Tuesday for engagements against Central Lakes Community College (8 a.m. exhibition) and Bemidji State (10 a.m.).
