It was quite a weekend for Emilee Trost -- to say the least.
The University of Minnesota Duluth sophomore All-American reigned as the top individual point producer at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, winning three titles and setting two conference records along the way. The Bulldogs collectively established some 21 personal bests and took third among 14 schools at the two-day event, which concluded Saturday afternoon in Mankato, Minn.
Trost successfully defended her 1,000-meter run crown, finishing in a NSIC-record time of 2:48.97 and also set a conference mark while taking first in the mile run (4:44.37). Both of those clockings were UMD records as well (both of which she held) and are currently the fastest times in the country for NCAA Division II athletes. Trost teamed with junior
Brittany Platt, freshman Taylor Amundson and junior
Breanna Colbenson to place first in the distance medley relay (in a NCAA II provisionally-qualifying time of 12:05.16) and amassed 22.5 points at the NSIC indoors.
UMD got second-place finishes from senior
Hannah Olson in both the mile (4:53.46) and 3,000-meter run (for the second year in a row; 9:44.43) and Colbenson in the 5,000 meter run (16:56.09). Colbenson also wound up third in the mile behind Trost and Olson with a time of 4:56.08. Some of the other point getters for the Bulldogs included freshman Liz Brunner in the triple jump (third; 38'-11.75"), freshman
Danielle Kohlwey in the 60-meter hurdles (fourth; 8.68), freshman
Michaela Hesse in the high jump (tied for fourth; 5'-04.25"), sophomore
Erica Kesseh in 60-meter dash (sixth; 7.83), senior
Chanel Miller in the 60-meter hurdles (sixth; 8.73) and senior
Lydia Kingsley in the weight throw (sixth; 54'-02.75"). The Bulldogs' 4 x 400 relay unit of Amundson, Hesse, Kohlwey and Miller, who was the NSIC indoor top point producer two years ago, placed fifth (3:59.72).
Kohlwey broke her own 60-meter hurdle record in Friday's preliminaries (8.67) as did Kesseh in the 60-meter dash (7.76)
Host Minnesota State University-Mankato captured team honors with 140.50 points and were followed by Augustana College (131.50 pts.), UMD (98 pts.), Winona State University (97 pts.) and the University of Mary (92 pts.). UMD was the NSIC champion in 2014 and was fourth last year.
The top three finishers in each event and top two relay teams earned All-NSIC status.
