FOUR EX-BULLDOGS IN HUNT FOR 2016 STANLEY CUP

The National Hockey League Stanley Cup playoffs begin tonight and four former University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs will be seeking to engrave their name of the most venerable trophy in professional sports. That quartet includes winger J.T. Brown (Tampa Bay Lightning), winger Justin Fontaine (Minnesota Wild) and defenseman Jason Garrison (Tampa Bay Lightening) and Matt Niskanen (Washington Capitals. None of these four ex-Bulldogs will meet in the the opening round of the playoffs.

Their final 2015-16 regular season statistics, along with those of the other four UMD alums who accrued NHL ice time this winter are as follows:

Six UMD products have won a Stanley Cup as players -- Brett Hull (Dallas in 1999 and Detroit in 2002),  Kurvers (Montreal in 1986), Dave "Moose" Langevin (New York Islanders in 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1984), Derek Plante (Dallas in 1999), Shjon Podein (Colorado in 2001) and Glenn "Chico" Resch (New York Islanders in 1980).
