FORMER BULLDOG STANDOUT KOIZUMI NAMED OHIO STATE ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH

Former University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey alumni Jessica Koizumi was named Ohio State University's associate head coach Tuesday, where she will join the staff of newly hired head coach Nadie Muzerall.

The 10th leading scorer in Bulldog history with 84 goals and 71 assists for 155 points in 132 games, Koizumi spent the last six seasons behind the bench at Yale University, while also playing professionally for the Connecticut Whale of the National Women's Hockey Leage.

"It has been a whirlwind of a week," Koizumi said. "Those that know me personally truly understand this was the hardest career decision I have had to make to retire playing professionally in the NWHL before what I planned would be my last season. I am a big believer that everything happens for a reason and this incredible coaching opportunity at The Ohio State University just felt right, that my time had come to hang up my skates and wear my permanent coaching hat."

A 2007 Frozen Four All-Tournament Team selection, as well as 2006-07 All-WCHA Third Team member, Koizumi's 84 goals  ranks as the seventh most by a Bulldog.  Koizumi won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2008 IIHF Women's World Championship, and twice won the Clarkson Cup (2013, 2015) with the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women's Hockey League over her seven-year CWHL career.
