A pair of University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey players netted Western Collegiate Hockey Association weekly honors Tuesday, as
Lara Stalder was named the WCHA's Co-Offensive Player of the Week and
Jalyn Elmes was named the WCHA's Rookie of the Week.
Senior forward Stalder's three goal, three assist weekend led the Bulldogs in a sweep over then No. 2 Minnesota. The Luzern, Switzerland native figured in six of UMD's eight goals in the series, including two assists that bookended a power play goal Friday night in the Bulldogs 3-2 win. Stalder followed that effort up with a two goal, one assist display in Saturday's 5-3 win, including netting the game-winning and last two scores for UMD. With five shots Friday and seven Saturday for a series total of 12, Stalder posted a +/- rating of +6 against the Gophers. Stalder ranks ninth in the NCAA with a 1.50 points per game average on 12 goals and 21 assists for 33 points in 22 games. She also ranks sixth in the NCAA with a 0.95 assists per game (third in the WCHA) and fourth in nation with four game-winning goals.
Freshman defenseman Elmes had a series-best three assists this past weekend in UMD's upset sweep. The Brandon, Manitoba product had a game-winning assist Friday in UMD's 3-2 win over the Gophers. Elmes then had an assist on UMD's second goal Saturday before recording her second game-winning helper of the series on Stalder's goal at 14:11 of the second period, and has registered three games with two points so far this season and has compiled two goals and six assists for eight points.
This marks Stalder's third WCHA weekly award this season and the sixth of her career, which also includes a Rookie of the Week selection. This is Elmes first weekly WCHA award.
