FIVE BULLDOGS RECEIVE HIGH ACADEMIC MARKS FROM NFCA

Whether it was on the softball diamond or in the classroom, the University of Minnesota Duluth delivered the goods in 2016-17.

Five individuals from the softball team were amidst a group of 1,267 Division II women who earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2016-17 academic year. To qualify for the prestigious honor, a student-athlete must have maintained at least a 3.50 grade point average.

That group included graduate pitcher and now volunteer assistant coach Sam Hartmann, junior pitcher Valerie Hohol, sophomore catcher Lexi Janigo, senior outfielder Hannah Schmoll and junior infielder Becky Smith. Hartmann, Schmoll, and Smith have each earned the honor three times while Hohol grabbed the distinction for the second time. Janigo gathered the award on her only attempt.
