For a second straight game, the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team out-shot Boston College, but unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the Eagles managed to land their offensive punches when it mattered most.

No. 3 BC defeated No. 4 UMD 4-1 to sweep the series, despite the Bulldogs 32-26 shots on goal advantage.  In all, UMD outshot the Eagles 63-52 on the weekend, but couldn't match BC's 8-4 goal difference.

A tip-in from Kenzie Kent put the Eagles up 1-0 7:47 into the first, but the Bulldogs responded with their third power play goal of the series.  Rookie forward Ashton Bell skated all three zones and beat BC netminder Katie Burt to even the contest at the 11:39 mark.  Bell's goal was her second against the Eagles on the weekend, and was assisted by Ryleigh Houston and Catherine Daoust.

BC netted their own power play goal with 1:32 remaining in the first period, the first of what would be three unanswered goals from Daryl Watts.  Watts added her second goal of the game at 14:52 of the second period before picking up a hat-trick 2:04 later to extend BC's lead to 4-1.

UMD shelled the Eagles in the third period with 15 shots on goal to BC's 5, but Burt stonewalled any sort of late game heroics for the Bulldogs Saturday.  Overall, Burt had 31 saves for the 2-0 Eagles.  UMD, who falls to 2-2, had 22 stops from sophomore goaltender Catherine Johnson in the first start of her Bulldog career.

The Bulldogs will open up Western Collegiate Hockey Association play next Friday and Saturday in Columbus, Ohio, where they will face Ohio State University.  Games will get underway at 5:07 p.m. CST Friday night, and 2:07 p.m. CST Saturday afternoon.

BULLDOG NOTES:  UMD is tied for the best power play in the NCAA at 28.6 after now scoring four goals in 17 extra skater attempts … the Bulldogs are now 6-6-1 all-time against the Eagles ... sophomore forward Sydney Brodt leads all Bulldogs in scoring with four points in four games on one goal and three assists … both Ashton Bell (2g, 1a)  and sophomore Ryleigh Houston (3a) have picked up three points … two players lead UMD with a team-high two goals — Bell and sophomore defenseman Jalyn Elmes.
