The University of Minnesota Duluth men's basketball team saw its win-streak come to an end at the hands of Bemidji State University by a score of 73-63. The Bulldogs have now dropped three straight meetings against the Beavers, including their last two Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season openers.
UMD (2-3; 0-1 NSIC) did something it hasn't done in over four years: shoot eight percent or worse from three-point land. The Bulldogs managed to connect on just 2-of-25 (eight percent) from beyond the arc; their worst percentage since Feb. 1, 2013 when it shot 0-of-15. UMD started 0-of-13 from deep before senior guard
Kyle Schalow made one with 11:09 left in the game. Where the Bulldogs three-point shooting struggled, their three-point defense thrived. UMD held BSU to just 6-of-21 (28.6 percent) from deep; a season best.
The first half saw three lead changes, but ended with a 29-23 score in favor of the Beavers. Sophomore forward
Brandon Myer paced all scorers with eight points on 4-of-9 shooting in the first 20 minutes of the game. Myer would go on to finish with 16 points. Sophomore guard
Logan Rohrscheib wrapped up the game a percent 7-of-7 from the free throw line, and a game-high 18 points.
UMD couldn't capitalize on free throws in final minutes of the game. The Bulldogs shot 17-for-22 (77.3 percent) from the line on the night, but missed three of four attempts with 1:07 remaining.
UMD will take on the Minnesota Crookston (3-4; 1-1 NSIC) on Saturday (Dec. 2) at 6 p.m. The Golden Eagles is led by sophomore guard Harrison Cleary. Clearly is averaging 23.7 points in his teams first seven games; good for the number two spot in the NSIC in ppg.
