The University of Minnesota Duluth got its Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule off to an encouraging start Friday night by downing Minnesota State University-Moorhead 5-4 at the Arrowhead Tennis Center in Duluth.
UMD, which evened its overall record at 2-2, opened the night with a doubles sweep, getting wins from juniors
Shelby Benkofske and
Kelsey Zetah at No. 1, rookie
Megan Anderson and senior
Drew DeCorsey at No. 2 and juniors
Katie Baasch and
Karly Weber at No. 3. Anderson then won in straight set at No. 3 singles (to push her 2017 record to a perfect 4-0) and Baasch prevailed in a tie-breaker at No. 6 a few minutes later to seal the victory.
The Bulldogs will host the University of Mary in another NSIC clash Saturday morning at the Quad Cities Tennis Club in Virginia, Minn.
