The University of Minnesota Duluth suffered its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference loss of the 2017 season Sunday and did so in its home finale.
One night after downing the University of Minnesota Crookston 8-1 for their third NSIC win in as many tries, the Bulldogs were upended 6-3 by Bemidji State University at the Arrowhead Tennis Center.
The Bulldogs (4-4 overall) found themselves down 2-1 after the doubles competition, with juniors
Shelby Benkofske and
Kelsey Zetah prevailing 9-7 at No. 1 while senior
Drew DeCorsey and freshman
Megan Anderson (No. 2) and junors
Katie Baasch and
Karly Weber (No. 3) both enduring 8-6 setbacks.
Benkofske went on to post a No. 1 singles win (in a tie breaker) and rookie
Elsa Erickson won in straight sets at No. 5.

Mikayla Gottwalt (No. 6) won their respective singles matches against Minnesota Crookston on Saturday and Benkofske and Zetah (No. 1), Baasch and Weber (No. 2) and Gottwalt and Menke (No. 3) were victorious in doubles.
The Bulldogs, who fell 9-0 to Gustavus Adolphus College in Duluth on Friday, will pay a visit to St. Cloud, Minn. next weekend for NSIC clashes with the Winona State University and Upper Iowa University on Saturday (Feb. 25) and St. Cloud State the following day.
